Rainwater Gutters offers both 5" and 6" seamless gutters. A lot goes into consideration when designing the proper gutter system for your home. The size of gutters and the number of downspouts is crucial to having an effective, functional, gutter system. Other factors that contribute to the gutter size, are house style, roof pitch and material, tree cover, and rain fall. The size of a gutter is determined by measuring the opening, or the top, of the gutter.
Five inch gutter is a typical residential gutter size. For every one foot of gutter, it can hold approximately 1.2 gallons of water. Originally designed to be used with 2"x3" downspouts with a drain capacity of approx 185 gal/min, oversized downspouts that are 3"x4" have replaced the smaller downspouts to allow double water drain capacity (approx 370 gal/min). 5" gutters work well on shingle roofs without extreme overhang.
Six inch gutter can be used in residential applications, as well as on some commercial buildings. With a capacity of approximately 2.0 gallons per foot of gutter, 3"x4" downspouts are a must for these gutters. 6" gutters are the recommended for metal roofed homes as well as homes with a lot of overhang to prevent gutter overshoots.
